Hi. My name is David Lazar. I am a computer engineer from Manitoba, but have lived for 30 years in Montreal. I studied computer engineering and machine learning in the 1980's, teaching a computer to tell the difference between atoms using statistics done on pixels.
In the early 1990's I worked in Virginia on a DARPA sponsered project to teach computers to tell the difference between seismic signals generated by TNT (or nukes) versus signals generated by earthquakes. Assisting the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. That was a type of machine learning and AI.
In the 2000's after dot com, I helped a local Montreal startup to do another kind of machine learning/AI trick, feeding the then nascent Twitter firehose into a kind of work counter, to gauge and graph what was popular and what was connected!
I then took time off to do easier computing, making Apps for Shopify. So 18 years of helping hundreds of businesses process billions of dollars. My small part of the computing world and puzzle.
Now it is 2025 and I am very interesting in this new (but actually old) world of neural networks and LLMs as pattern recognition extraordinaire computing. I would love to meet and work with the crowd investing in this vibrant sector, where I think my experience, and abilities could be of use. I am handy with many of the tools of the trade, but always willing to learn more and adapt to the latest advanced.
Please reach out anytime and I would love to meet here on Slack or whatever for discussions!
